Farm Community Trust of Zimbabwe (FCTZ) conducted Participatory health and Hygiene Education (PHHE) training workshops for school health teachers and community based facilitators in Bindura and Murehwa districts under the Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) programme. PHHE is a process that aims to promote conditions and practices that help to prevent water and sanitation related diseases.

The workshop was conducted from November 28 to the 10th of December. The first group to be trained comprised of 30 teachers (16 female teachers and 14 male teachers) was conducted at Couch house Hotel in Bindura. Another group of school health teachers made up of 12 male teachers and 14 female teachers was trained at Kunzwana training center in Macheke.

The workshop was officially opened by the Provincial Education Officer (PEO) Mr Mazibeli for Mashonaland Central Province. In his opening remarks Mazibeli expressed gratitude to FCTZ for increasing the number of teachers who are trained in health related issues especially hygiene  as the Ministry of Education does not want schooling activities disrupted by hygiene related diseases that can be prevented through PHHE and hoped that the health club concept would be implemented in all schools.

Two Environmental Health Technicians (EHTs)also graced the trainings and helped in the  planning of  school health club activities that include formation and training of the club members, commemoration of Global hand washing day, the sanitation week and other health related commemorations.
